crazy is as crazy does

There really are some crazy-ass women out there, just perpetuating the “all women are crazy” label… But seriously, why didn’t this work???

CHICAGO (WBBM) — A woman from Chicago’s Northwest Side wanted to start the New Year with a marriage proposal, with help from police.

As WBBM’s Julie Mann reports, the woman is now facing criminal charges.

Ana Perez, 40, called 911 around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, claiming her boyfriend was attacking her.

When police arrived, she changed her story, admitting she was trying to scare her boyfriend into marrying her.

Police in the Grand Central District were not amused, and charged Perez with disorderly conduct.

“She called 911 to scare him and have the police force him to marry her,’’ according to Grand Central District police Capt. Grand Central District Capt. Ronald Pontecore

Pontecore said the officers raced to the scene, believing a woman was in danger, “only to find out its something ridiculous like that.’’

The boyfriend, according to police, had no intention of marrying Perez and was in the process of breaking up with her.

Here are some comments from Gawker’s commenters:

“it’s such a mystery why the stereotype that women are crazy is so prevalent.”

“Shockingly this did not result in a proposal. Her next Match.com profile should be interesting.”

“I thought you were supposed to get fake-kidnapped? Pssh, this woman is an amateur.”

“If only she had watched more Maury. We all know the only thing that works is to get pregnant.”

“Wacky hijinks! Cue countdown for this to be turned into a movie starring Jennifer Aniston, Kathrine Hiegl, or Kate Hudson.”

“I bet the sex with this chick was amazing. A little bit of crazy goes a long way in the sack. Too bad she had to ruin the fun by getting the police involved.”

“Please reference the crazy/hot scale.”

“‘Missing your period’ doesn’t work anymore?”

I’m not sure which I find more repugnant: what she did or what people said. What she did wins by a nose because it’s hard enough to get people to take domestic violence seriously, but the comments…she’s not the only crazy out there.

    • She’s definitely a loon. The commenters are overly snarky and say some very distasteful things that you have to take as such.

*hanging head in shame* I thought the comments were pretty funny, but then again, I’m hugely snarky (no wonder I’m single) ……. pretty odd tactic though. Did she maybe think he’d propose from a holding cel?

    • Comments in those type of forums, especially Gawker, are almost always snarky and are meant to be taken with a grain of salt. I’m generally unaffected by the comments because I know that they’ll be offensive and if that’s your humor, funny. No shame in seeing the funny side of them. The commenters did not post them to be taken absolutely seriously (in most cases) and are just smart asses like the rest of us.

  3. Nobody’s denying there are crazy women in the world, I just hate when we all get slapped with this label.

  4. “If only she had watched more Maury. We all know the only thing that works is to get pregnant.”

This person must not watch Maury…since that show is just the opposite.

    • The only thing Maury is really good at is proving that the man you are trying to prove paternity to your illegitimate child is in fact NOT the father

Barney Stinson motivational poster…epically awesome! Guys CLEARLY use this method and I will admit it is a nickname of mine and on my license plate :) However mine trends a great deal towards my overly neat and clean habits, workouts, etc…everything is over the top nutty :)

    • You’re the difference between being crazy/hot and psycho/hot… there is a distinct difference!

  6. Haha this is a perfect reference point for the crazy/hot scale. This girl is so crazy it doesn’t even matter how hot she is, she’s way off the charts. I also seem drawn to crazy girl stories – just because the stereotype had to come from somewhere! Also, I like the mild affirmation I get when I can say, “I’m crazy – but I’m not that friggin crazy!”

    • Oh yeah, I admit to being crazy, but not this crazy!
